When I first wrote this song it wasn't really about Rachel Carson. But years later, when writing out the lyrics I felt it was a natural fit, and so I added her name to help make the point. She was a gifted artist, marine biologist and a champion conservationist who famously challenged the notion that humans were in charge of mother nature. As for the song itself, the draw for me was the mixing of the time signatures. The offbeat verses and 5/4 choruses are unique, though few other than musicians (especially drummers) would ever notice. That's where the "No Time" title came from originally, as in no set time signature. I always wanted to be in an alt rock band, but this track is the closest I've yet come to that. It's a lot of fun to play live, with just guitars, bass and drums.
