Early 2019 I was talking with Kinard Cherry about finding some ways we could play together. As colleagues at NIH we had known each other for a couple of years, and he had even played on a couple of tracks I did with my nieces Katrina Rivera and Netanus Grubbs. You can hear those songs on the Family page
Kinard was quite busy with his own music, working with his recording artist wife Tamara Wellons and being dad to 6 kids, so he didn't have a lot of extra time to just sit around and go over ideas, but once he said something like, "Why don't you put together a new demo of some of your songs and we'll see what we can do." And so I decided to take him up on it.
I had been slowly working on building up my home studio for a few years, but hadn't really done anything with other musicians since my performing years in Hungary. I was thinking that if Kinard liked the demo we would need to be able to play out fairly soon. I didn't want to just do a demo with me playing everything, I needed a real band. It took several months of combing through various musician listings but I was able to piece together a group of talent that was quite strong. Now we just needed to figure out how to record everything without it taking too long or being too expensive.
Kinard suggested Sweet Spot Studio and we set a day. On April 2, 2019 in about 12 hours we recorded the basics of most of these songs, based off of the original Korg 01W/FD workstation tracks. And then it took me 3 years of adding additional parts and studio work to get them to this point. A lot of work, but very much a labor of love. I am so grateful to all those who helped me reach this modest goal. I could not have done it without you. Thank you from the bottom of my heart.
On April 2, 2019 we recorded many
of the parts for several of the
Play for You 2022 EP songs.
